From Hunger to Hope

For my contribution, I chose to donate to the World Food Programme through FromHungerToHope.com. I found this site when I went to KFC this afternoon with my husband and son. They were selling wristbands which read "World Hunger Relief Week" for RM2 each. So me and the hubby got one each for ourselves and wore them straight away.

So, as highlighted in my previous post, poverty is a global issue that we should all help tackle and help raise awareness.

As mentioned in Nessa's post, due to poverty:

*Every five seconds a child dies of hunger
*150 million children in developing countries are malnourished
*More than 110 million school-age children are not in school
*6,000 children die every day because of disease-infested drinking water

And because of poverty, families and communities suffer from malnutrition, illiteracy, violence and the spread of HIV/AIDS - Squidoo

Results of the World Hunger Relief Week 2008 can be found here.

So let's hope that for the World Hunger Relief Week 2008, we can do double or triple that! We can do loads for those less fortunate than us not only today, but everyday of our lives.

For approximately $1 a day, WFP can provide a meal to four children through its global school feeding program. Your donation goes to feeding people and can make the difference between hunger and hope.

Did you know that:

  • $25 feeds a child in school for half the year
  • $50 feeds one child in school for the entire academic year
  • $70-100 per child provides supplementary food to a child under 2 years of age for 18 months
  • $1,000 feeds 100 school children for one year
So dig whatever you can from your pockets, credit cards or PayPal account and donate some money today! It's really easy to do.

I hope though that with Blog Action Day 2008, it did manage to create some realization for all my readers out there. When you think you have a bad day, do think about those that don't know whether they can manage to survive another day at all.

Thanks all.
